The Nissan Pathfinder is engineered to keep you safe whether you're on the road or off-road driving on rough terrain around East Providence, Cranston, and Pawtucket, RI. In addition to its numerous safety features, the Pathfinder comes with a convenient computer system that triggers dashboard lights whenever it detects any issues.
It's important to understand what these symbols signify, so our team at Stateline Nissan created this handy guide to show you what many of them mean.
Nissan Pathfinder Warning Lights
When there's a problem in your Nissan Pathfinder, you may see a warning light. These lights are red or yellow in color and could mean that your car needs to be serviced.
Anti-lock Braking System
This light appears as the letters ABS and indicates a fault with the anti-lock braking system. You can safely continue driving, just be sure to avoid heavy braking.
Brake Warning Light
This light appears as the word BRAKE. First, ensure your parking brake is fully released. If it is, there is likely a fault in your braking system.
Pull over as soon as it's safe to do so, and keep in mind that you may experience less braking capability than normal. You'll need to have your Pathfinder serviced as soon as possible.
Charge Warning Light
Appearing as a battery, this light indicates a problem with your car's electrical system. The alternator is most commonly at fault here, so have your car serviced as soon as possible to avoid a dead battery.
Automatic Emergency Braking
This light looks like two cars about to collide. It will be illuminated when the system is turned off. If it's illuminated and the system is on, it may signify a problem.
It's safe to continue driving, you'll just want to keep in mind that the system may not be able to warn you of potential collisions.
Low Tire Pressure
This light appears as an exclamation point inside two curves with vertical lines coming out of the bottom, imitating the look of a flat tire.
If you see this, one or more of your tires need air. You can find an air pump at a local gas station and fill them to the manufacturer-recommended level.
Malfunction Indicator Light
This Nissan Pathfinder dashboard light is more commonly referred to as the Check Engine light. It looks like a small engine.
If this light illuminates, there is an issue with the emissions control system or the engine itself. You can safely drive your Pathfinder to be inspected as soon as possible.
Master Warning
Appearing as an exclamation point inside a triangle, the master warning light can point to a minor or major problem. It could indicate something like a loose fuel cap, but it could also mean you have an overheated all-wheel drive system.
If you see it, pull over and check your information display to discover the issue.
Electric Power Steering Warning Light
This light appears as a steering wheel with an exclamation point next to it. It indicates a problem with your power steering system.
You can continue driving, but it may be more difficult to turn your Pathfinder.
Nissan Pathfinder Indicator Lights
Don't sweat it when you see these lights. Indicator lights serve to notify you when certain features are active in your Pathfinder.
Fog Lights
This light looks like a headlight with slanted lines coming out of it and a vertical curvy line. It indicates that your fog lights are engaged.
Hill Descent Control
If your Pathfinder is going downhill, this light may illuminate. It appears as an SUV going down a slanted surface.
The light may not illuminate when going down an incline. If that occurs, there could be a problem with the Hill Descent Control system.
Slip Indicator
This light looks like a car leaving curvy tread marks behind it. It's illuminated when your Vehicle Dynamic Control system is activating to improve traction.
Tow Mode
This light looks like the word TOW and indicates that Tow mode is on.
When activated, the transmission shift points are optimized for towing, so you can enjoy proper acceleration and power.
Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) Off
This light looks the same as the slip indicator light except it has the word OFF at the bottom.
It indicates that the Vehicle Dynamic Control system is off.
