Tackling the streets of the East Providence, Cranston, and Pawtucket area can be really fun when you're sitting behind the wheel of the Nissan Frontier. However, when there's a light flashing on your dashboard, the joy ride can quickly become harrowing. That's why it's important to stay on top of your dashboard symbols, so you can know exactly what the symbol is telling you, and what you should do when it appears on your dashboard.

At Stateline Nissan, we're here to give you a little insight into the Nissan Frontier dashboard symbols. We'll be taking a look at the indicator symbols, and the warning symbols. This guide will help you prepare for when a light appears on the dashboard of your Nissan Frontier. But first, let's go over how the indicator symbols and warning symbols differ.

Indicator Symbols vs Warning Symbols

It's easy to notice the distinction between indicator symbols and warning symbols. Indicators are more on the blue, green, and yellow side of the color spectrum, and these symbols are used to let you know of a system that has been activated, or they're acknowledging that you've activated a system. Warning symbols, however, are exactly what you'd think. They're letting you know of a mechanical failure or issue that requires your immediate attentions. These symbols are usually red or orange.

Nissan Frontier Indicator Symbols

  • Hill Descent Control System ON: When this symbol lights up on your dashboard, it means that this system has activated to give you better control while heading down a hill.
  • High Beam Indicator Symbol: This symbol appears when you turn on your high beams and it will go away once you turn the lights off.
  • Slip Indicator Symbol: When your Vehicle Dynamic Control system activates due to a loss in traction, this symbol will appear to indicate that the system is running and once your vehicle regains traction, the symbol will go away.
  • Hazard Symbol: If you turn on your hazard lights, this symbol will light up until you turn your hazards off.

Nissan Frontier Warning Symbols

  • Brake Warning Symbol: This symbol has a few meanings. The best scenario is that you forgot to disengage your parking brake. However, it could also mean that you're low on brake fluid, and you won't have full stopping power until you have the system checked by a Nissan dealer.
  • Charge Warning Symbol: If you see this symbol light up, you should immediately pull over, turn the engine off, and check your generator belt for any cracks. If the belt is fine, but the light stays on, have the system checked by your Nissan dealer immediately.
  • Engine Oil Pressure Warning Symbol: When you see this symbol, you should pull over and check your oil level. If it's low, you should top off the oil, but if the light remains, contact your Nissan dealer.
  • Low Tire Pressure Warning Symbol: This symbol will come on when one or more of your tires is low on air. If you see this symbol, seek an air station so you can fill your tire(s) back up to the appropriate level.

If you see any of these warning symbols appear, and you're on the side of the road needing assistance, you can always contact us at Stateline Nissan for help. We're always happy to lend a helping hand to drivers in the East Providence, Cranston, and Pawtucket areas.
