2016 Nissan Rogue
The 2016 Nissan Rogue continues the legacy of this mainstay among crossover SUVs, providing tons of room on the interior and an impressively comfortable ride. Its range of user-friendly technology, upscale interior trim, wealth of storage, and optional third-row seating is sure to please prior fans, while the new trim level and addition of features such as Siri Eyes Free, NissanConnect telematics, and advanced collision mitigation will draw new fans.
Trim and Technology
The 2016 Rogue comes in three trim levels: the base S level, the SV, and the new SL. Every trim comes standard with two-row seating, and the S and SV levels have an option to add third-row seating for those large families or big carpools.
Standard features include LED running lights, remote keyless entry, air conditioning, cruise control, a trip computer, a 5-inch central display, Bluetooth connectivity, a four-speaker sound system with satellite tuner, a CD player, a USB and auxiliary jack, and a rearview camera.
Higher trim levels include luxuries such as dual-zone automatic climate control, a six-way power driver seat with lumbar support, NissanConnect smartphone apps, upgrades to six- or eight-speaker sound systems—the top of the line is a Bose system including six-CD changer—a navigation system, a 7-inch touchscreen, voice control, and emergency telematics.
Performance and Safety
The base engine for the new Nissan Rogue is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that delivers 170 horsepower through a continuously variable transmission and front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is available as an upgrade. The EPA-estimated fuel economy is around 28 mpg for both front- and all-wheel drive versions.
Standard safety features include anti-lock brakes, Traction and Stability Control, standard airbags throughout, a rearview camera, and Hill Start Assist with all-wheel drive adding Hill Descent Control.
Optional safety upgrades include Blind Spot and Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Mitigation and Warning, an AroundView camera, and the NissanConnect emergency telematics system with geo-fencing, collision notification, emergency assist, and stolen vehicle locator.
The Rogue got four out of five stars for crash protection and a highest good rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety for overall safety and collision protection. Overall, the Rogue combines solid performance with a strong suite of available safety features.
