Newport Jazz Festival: What You Need to Know

Jazz music is not just historic, but universal, as well, so it’s no wonder the Newport Jazz Festival has lasted over 60 years.

Dating back to 1954, the Newport Jazz Festival has hosted a number of infamous musicians, including Billie Holliday, Miles Davis, Frank Sinatra, Aretha Franklin, Led Zeppelin, and Louis Armstrong, just to name a few.

Want to be a part of this historic event? Read on to get all the info on the Newport Jazz Festival!

“What a Wonderful World”: Location

The Newport Jazz Festival is held rain or shine at Fort Adams State Park, located at 90 Fort Adams Drive in Newport on August 4-6, 2017. You’ll find four different stages, along with an array of food and crafts, and other vendors. Two beer and wine gardens are set up, as well.

For those attending the Newport Jazz Festival Friday evening concert, you’ll head on over to the International Tennis Hall of Fame at the Newport Casino. This event is also held rain or shine, and tickets go fast, so be sure to get yours soon!

“Take the ‘A’ Train”: Transportation

If you’re worried about how you’ll get to the festival, you’ll have plenty of options. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can bike from your camping spot, or take a water shuttle via either the Newport Harbor Shuttle or the Jamestown Newport Ferry.

Driving directions are available, as well. Fort Adams State Park is only about 1.5 hours from Boston, and 3.5 hours from New York City. Parking is available on site, but is limited, so carpooling is encouraged.

“There’s a Small Hotel”: Lodging

There are several different options when deciding where you’ll stay for the festival. Although camping is prohibited at Fort Adams State Park, there are several campgrounds nearby.

If camping isn’t your thing, there are several great hotels to choose from that are associated with the festival, including Gurney’s Newport Resort & Marina, Newport Marriott, and The Newport Harbor Hotel and Marina.

The Newport Jazz Festival is a great way to be a part of music history, while experiencing incredible acts, new and old. You won’t regret making the trip to the festival of a lifetime.
