For October picking, your best options are Golden Delicious, Red Delicious, Northern Spy, Idared, Empire, and Rome Beauty. While you’re there, you can swing by the farmers’ market and pick up some fresh local produce.

Four Town Farm

Jaswell’s Farm

Located in the heart, or endocarp, of apple valley is Jaswell’s Farm, the oldest running apple orchard in Smithfield, RI. It was started by Nicholas Jaswell in 1899, and since then, it’s become one of the most sought-after apple destinations in Rhode Island.

Not only can you pick your own apples and other fruit varieties, but you can also pick up some apple-related goodies like candy apples and caramel apples plus Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup apples, Chopped Walnut apples, Oreo apples, and toasted almond apples.

You can even take a tour to see what the farm has to offer and what goes into running and maintaining it.

Steere Orchard

Steere Orchard has been a family-run orchard since 1930, and since then, they’ve made a name for themselves as the largest orchard in Rhode Island. You can pick your own apples, with a wide variety including Cortland, Macintosh, Red and Golden Delicious, and Macoun. You can even swing by the farm stand and pick up some homemade apple butter and fresh apple cider. Steere Orchard even offers free hayrides on the weekend.
